About Me
My name is Eric Dietz. I am a Junior at Metamora Township High School in Metamora, Illinois. I believe that understanding history is incredibly important in order to understand what cycles will repeat themselves in the future. The United States is still a growing country, and knowing its past will help us to not repeat the same mistakes as we have in the past. The key to the prosperity of the world as a whole lies in its past, as well as in the present, in the minds of the people who will decide the fate of modern society.
My interests and beliefs reflect my personality and philosophy about life and the future. The material things that I enjoy in life are movies, books, video games, and other things of the like. I like to put my statements into pictures on paper rather than words. As a hobby, I write and design stories, mostly for video games. I can program at a medium level of difficulty, and draw and do other artistic things fairly well. I am a member of my school's FIRST Robotics Team, which is an organization that strives for the integration and recognition of science and technology in society. I think of myself as being very analytically minded, which means that I think with my head rather than my heart. I believe that reason and logic always take precedence over spirituality and the like.
My entire philosophy is based around the idea of progress. In my opinion, humanity as a whole is more important than any one man, or one group's ideals. Any idea that could cause a regression into an age of darkness is a threat to humanity's survival. I have always thought of our culture as a tapestry, woven by all humans who ever existed. Each thread counts. If one thread is missing from the final piece, it will not hold together. Mankind's tapestry is not complete. Every person who lives adds their string to the final piece. We strive for the future together, unhindered by simple political boundaries. This tapestry is the future of our race, and our key to the universe.
I am often asked what my future holds. I could answer in two different ways. The reality, which is that my goal is to become a game designer. The other is the more philosophical answer. My life matters in the story of all of mankind. What one person accomplishes can sow the seeds of prosperity. When everyone works together, we can ignite our passion for adventure, and our curiosity for new things. When I look into the stars, I see our future, not mine, because my life is simply one string in the thread of eternity.
I am an Atheist. When most people hear that word, they instantly have a negative connotation. This is not right. I admit my system of beliefs like any other person would without hesitation, and yet I am shunned above all others because mine is the most different? I am not afraid to admit that I have different pursuits in life, and that my religious classification simply means none of the above. I have been shunned and scorned for my choice, but I do not resent those who have wronged me. I blame only the social stigma and stereotypes that are driven upon people with different opinions. This is not just the case with us Atheists. Anyone who has a new idea in our society, or any person who thinks differently is instantly sunned, or forgotten because they fear change. Not only does the establishment fear change, but they fear those who would cause it. I will fight for the change the world needs to see, because goals cannot be attained by living in the past, or even the present.
Despite my philosophical complexes, I am myself and only myself. These things are what make me myself, and not anyone else
